A Conversation on Character

In this unique format, Zig Ziglar shares his thoughts in a casual and informal style that offers responses to questions that address many of the characteristics essential to professional and personal success.

Facilitated by Gary Heavin, founder and CEO of Curves International, and David Keeler, President of Cornerstone America, both of whom know the importance of character, having led their companies through phenomenal growth.

There are a few character concepts discussed.

Honesty: Honesty is important to progress in society. Truth can be denied but it can’t be avoided.

The player is on the team. People score points. Teams win games when they are at home, on the job, or in athletics. The team will be able to perform on schedule if the players accept their responsibility and deliver on time.

Discipline. There is a balanced goals program for discipline. When you do the things you need to do when you want to do them, the day will come when you can do the things you want to do.

Enthusiasm An outward expression of inner feeling is enthusiasm. It is very contagious and contributes to corporate effectiveness. The Greek word for God in us is Enthusiasm.

Goals Others will take your time and direct your life if you don’t plan your time and direction. Goal-setting brings the future into the present so you can do something about it now.

Responsibility: You attract attention from friends, family, and upper management when you consistently deliver. Taking others with you is a step ladder to moving up.

There is an attitude. According to William James, the most important discovery of our time is that we can alter our lives by changing our attitude. Studies show that 85% of the reason we get a job and progress in that job is because of our attitude.

There is passion. Each individual can use his or her full potential if directed passion is founded on an ethical moral base. The results can be great. Your life will be enriched and those in your realm of influence will be lifted higher if you have positive, controllable passion.

Faith: The factors that determine everything we do are faith in God, self, and motivation. Positive results can be visualized in the future. We will never see it if we don’t see it before we see it.

The person has self- worth. Joyce Brothers said, You cannot consistently perform in a manner which is inconsistent with the way you see yourself. Imagine what a loving God can make out of you if a man can take moldy bread and make penicillin out of it.

Love: Responsibility, talent and commitment allow us to do things well. Add love to the formula, love for our job, love for our project, and love for the people we are performing for, and we will do them beautifully. We become like the high jumper who broke the world’s record when he threw his heart over the bar, because love brings our heart into full focus.
